In 2009, TV3 received 60 films and programs to compete for the prestigious TV3 Awards in their two categories. PRESIDENT Melissa Caron MEMBERS María Pía Quiroga Tue Steen Müller Soha Saleh Joan Salvat Saladrigas Their choice as winner of the International TV3 Award 2009 was: "The Coca-Cola Case"
Two lawyers and labour rights’ activists, Daniel Kovalik of the United Steel Workers of America and Terry Collingsworth of the International Rights Advocates, and their partner Ray Rogers of Corporate Campaign firmly believe that US multinational corporations should be held accountable for the shabby practices of their business associates throughout the world. To lead their battle, they resort to a law dating back to the origin of the American Constitution – the Alien Tort Claims Act – that allows foreigners to file suit in the U.S. against Americans who violate international laws. They want this law enforced in the case of abuses perpetrated by corporations. The film tells the story of their fight against one of America’s stellar icons: the Coca-Cola company. The jury members for the Catalunya TV3 Award were: PRESIDENT Jordi Ambrós Hortensi Francesc Vilallonga Maria Corominas Valérie Delpierre Jesús Medina Their choice as winner of the Catalunya TV3 Award 2009 was: "Calidoscopi. 41,2ºN – 1,8ºE"
Latitude 41.2ºN, longitude 1.8ºE: just a small point on the map, a mere speck in the huge universe. At this particular spot, a busy pedestrial crossroads in the town of Sitges, Spain, a camera observed peoples’ day-to-day comings and goings periodically over the course of a year, as the setting changed with the turning of the seasons. In the words of Heraclitus, “Everything is in flux.” Who hasn’t let their imagination soar when observing others from a discreet distance? Imma Serra skillfully captures the little gestures, the quick glances, those conversations we can only imagine from afar; those things we do when we think no one is watching.
